Why shop in Santa Clarita?
A strong local economy and
high quality of life within the City of Santa Clarita are largely
dependent upon the community’s
preference to do their shopping within the City. The City of Santa
Clarita lies between the lines of State Route 14 and the I-5. The
goal of the Shop Santa Clarita campaign is to encourage residents
to shop in the City of Santa Clarita, where 100 percent of the City-derived
sales tax stays in our Valley, providing services to Santa Clarita
residents and businesses.
Sales tax is a primary source of revenue for
the City of Santa Clarita, with forty three percent of the City’s
General Fund coming from sales tax monies. When purchases are made
within the City’s
boundaries and sales tax is applied, the City receives one percent
of the taxable sale. Sales tax revenue is essential for funding projects,
programs, and services the community has told the City they would
like, from the Cross Valley Connector road to the new Community Center
currently under construction in Old Town Newhall.
Every cent, every dollar of City sales tax money
is spent on programs, projects and work efforts for the residents
of Santa Clarita. Additionally, it is important to also point out
that City sales tax dollars benefit the entire Santa Clarita Valley
through the Citys funding of regional facilities, programs, services
and efforts.
The City realizes that determining
the boundaries of where “local” begins
and ends is sometimes difficult. However, we hope that by providing
you with an easy way to access a list of City vendors and profiles
of businesses located within the City, this process will have been
made much simpler. Just remember the next time you go shopping or
to take the family out to dinner, be sure to support our City businesses,
which in turn support our local community.
Make your tax dollars work for you and your
community, stay between the lines of the I-5 and State Route 14…shop
City of Santa Clarita!
